GUWAHATI: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL<\/a>) stated that around 1300 employees have opted for voluntary retirement scheme (VRS<\/a>) in Assam Circle<\/a>. In a statement, BSNL said that “VRS has been implemented all over India as part of the revival plan. Across the country, 1800 employees opted for VRS, and around 1700 employees are still working in the Assam Circle. There is no plan of shutting down.\"
Chief General Manager Assam Circle, Sandeep Govil said, “ As assured by our Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad<\/a>, there is no plan for shutting down BSNL. BSNL is being revived by taking various strategic steps. VRS is also a part of this revival plan. With the new workforce, BSNL will regain its position in the telecom market.\"
He added that at a time when private operators are increasing tariffs, BSNL is the only telco to launch lucrative plans to benefit subscribers.
