To strengthen telecom infrastructure in the state, the electronic and information technology (E&IT) department is planning to formulate a
policy<\/a>. Chief secretary A P Padhi has already presided over a preliminary meeting over the issue.

Sources in the E&IT department stated that the draft policy would be prepared following discussion with telecom operators, industry associations and after examining similar policies formulated by other states like
Chhattisgarh<\/a>, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Assam<\/a>. The state government would make special provision for strengthening telecom infrastructure in Left-wing extremism areas.

\nThe policy would have details of fee structure and approval authority for setting up of mobile towers, laying of cabling and other equipment. The state government has also directed the E&IT department to make lenient provisions so that telecom operators would come forward for expanding their services in remote areas, said the sources.

\nAfter finalization of the draft, it would be distributed among different departments for receiving feedback following which the draft policy would be placed before the cabinet for approval, the sources said.
