“The average monthly data usage per user surpassed 11 GB in December growing 16% annually due to increase in upgradation of the 4G network, low data prices, affordable smartphones, and the ever-increasing popularity of videos,” the study showed.
However, broadband penetration in India is still 47% which is significantly lower than China (95%) and other European nations at around 95-115%.
Nokia MBiT study highlights that innovative Industry 4.0 use cases such as remote monoitoring in manufacturing and mining, material handling through Augmented Reality in warehouses, logistics etc. will drive the uptake of Private LTE in the country.
Private LTE is a local LTE network utilizing dedicated radio equipment to service a premise making it independent of fluctuations in a wide-area network.
Nokia in the past had partnered with telecom operator Bharti Airtel<\/a> to offer private LTE network solution to enterprises across banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI), information technology enabled services (ITES), media and services, manufacturing and distribution.
The average time spent on (Over-The-Top) OTT platforms in India has reached 70 minutes\/day fueled by easy availability of regional content, aggressive distribution strategy, and innovations like sachet pricing and mobile-only packs by OTT players.
Currently, there are over 30 OTT platforms in the country.
The number of 4G handsets devices grew 1.5 times in the year gone by to reach 501 million units due to the availability of a range of feature-rich models and competitive prices, according to the study.
“The upcoming 4K\/8K videos and Industry 4.0 solutions that promise to enhance productivity and bring down expenses for the industries across different verticals, demand ultra-high speed and extremely low latency. The Indian telcos will need to consider other connectivity solutions to leverage the new opportunities and to address the growing data consumption,” said Sanjay Malik<\/a>, Senior Vice President & Head of India Market Nokia.
