NEW DELHI: The talent demand in India's telecom sector is expected to grow by 18-20% in 2021 on account of wide-spread adoption of internet services, demand for better telecom networks<\/a>, and the rollout of fifth generation or 5G<\/a> technology, a market analysis by staffing firm TeamLease<\/a> Digital said.

Some of the profiles that will be sought after are RF engineers, fibre laying, testers, quality check engineers, field engineers, among others, the analysis added.

“2020 was an unusual year for all sectors including telecom but for telecom technology talent it was a busy year in terms of employment. The pandemic opened many opportunities in the sector for talent. From replacement hiring that was the feature till COVID, the hiring in the telecom sector witnessed a growth,” said Gautam Vohra, VP & Business Head, Telecom & Engineering Staffing, TeamLease Digital.

According to Vohra, the telecom
industry<\/a> witnessed a 15% increase in demand for talent-driven by telecom infrastructure companies, mobile-enabled services, and telecom OEM.

Initiatives like the production-linked incentive and the government’s thrust on the domestic telecom equipment manufacturing will provide further impetus to the hiring of talent in the industry, Vohra said, adding that it would lead to job creation in sectors such as transmission equipment, RAN, wireless equipment, CPE,
IoT<\/a>, enterprise equipment manufacturing hubs in India.

“It can also lead to an increase in the number of R&D centers and even semiconductors catchments,” he added.
