The 5G smartphone shipment share increased to 31%, said CMR, estimating that around $20 billion value of
5G smartphones<\/a> were shipped last year. Samsung<\/a> led this segment with a 23% market, followed by OnePlus<\/a> with a 15% market share.

“5G smartphone shipments posted strong growth in the year. Driven by a resilient consumer appetite to switch and upgrade, the premium smartphone market continued to gain traction. In fact, the uber-premium smartphone segment (>Rs 1,00,000) grew a whopping >95% YoY. All said, the overall smartphone market continued to post a decline, driven by the tough market conditions in H2 2022,” said Menka Kumari, Analyst- Industry Intelligence Group, CyberMedia Research (CMR).

The overall mobile market in India declined 17% year-over-year in 2022. On a sequential basis, smartphone shipments declined by 28% in Q4 2022.

Xiaomi<\/a> led the smartphone market with a 21% share and its 5G smartphone shipments grew 138% year-over-year. Samsung, in the second position, held a 19% share and led the premium (Rs 25,000-Rs 50,000) segment with a 31% share, and its 5G shipments crossed the 10 million mark, growing 142% year-over-year, as per CMR data.

Vivo was placed in third position with a 14% market share, while Realme was placed fourth with a 14% market share, with its shipments declining by 14% year-over-year. Oppo was placed fifth with a 10% market share.

OnePlus Smartphone shipments recorded 48% year-over-year growth. In contrast,
Apple<\/a> captured a 4% market share with a 17% year-over-year increase in its shipments. Apple shipped approximately $6 billion value of smartphones in 2022. 79% of iPhones shipped were in the super-premium (Rs 50,000-Rs 1,00,000) segment, according to CMR.

Shipments for the full year 2022 also declined to 1.2 billion units, the lowest since 2013, it said in a report released Friday. Analysts at the research firm expect the market to remain under pressure until the end of the first half (H1) of 2023, and recover afterward.<\/p><\/div>
