NEW DELHI: Bharti Airtel chief executive officer (CEO) Gopal Vittal said the telco’s standalone businesses, spanning payments bank to data centers, will add five more unicorns to India’s tally of 83.

These businesses include
Airtel Payments Bank, Nxtra, Wynk, Airtel Ads, and Airtel IQ. The term ‘unicorn’ is used to refer to a startup company which has a value of over $1 billion.

“As standalone businesses,
Airtel Payments bank, Nxtra, Wynk, Airtel Ads and Airtel IQ would comfortably add 5 more Unicorns to India’s tally of 83,” Vittal said in a statement.

“We are the only profitable and growing Fintech player in the payments space with Airtel Payments bank. We are the number one CPaaS player by EBITDA already and Airtel IQ is being adopted by more and more of our enterprise customers,” he said.

The Airtel chief executive said the telco’s advertising technology (AdTech) platform, Airtel Ads, is “now serving hundreds of customers and growing rapidly.”

“With Nxtra we are the Number 1 data center player in India. We are already the Number 1 IoT player in India. In under a year we are already amongst the top ten cyber security players,” Vittal said, adding that the
Airtel Wynk music streaming service has over 2.8 billion monthly streams.

Earlier today, Airtel and internet major Google inked a long-term, multi-year agreement to accelerate the growth of India’s digital ecosystem.
