NEW DELHI: The top three GSM operators - Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India, and Idea Cellular - saw their combined revenue market share erode by 90 basis points in the July-September quarter as increases in their effective call rates drove some users, mainly rural ones, away to smaller rivals, say analysts.

Bharti Airtel, India's largest telecom operator, reported the maximum fall of 45 basis points, while Aircel was the biggest gainer, adding 34 basis points to its revenue market share (RMS), brokerage HSBC wrote in a note to clients.

All the three telecom operators have been cleaning up the discounted minutes on their networks to achieve a better rate per minute. Consequently, Bharti recorded a 4% increase in voice realisation per minute over the last year, while Idea clocked an improvement of 8.3% due to clamping down of free minutes.

Bharti Airtel's revenue market share at the end of the September quarter was 30.45%, followed by Vodafone's at 23.09% and Idea's at 15.87%. While Vodafone lost 31 basis points, Idea's market share came down by 33 basis points.
