\n“Going forward, we’re looking at markets in South East Asia and India where around 100 million new smartphone users will come on board next year. We have put much more focus in our strategy that our games become default apps in those new smartphones,” Antti Ohrling, head of India operations, told ET.

\nHaving established its presence in key gaming markets including the US, larger Europe markets besides Japan, China and South Korea, Rovio Entertainment wants to look at markets which have traditionally been slow adapters to mobile games, but are now fast growing including India.

Owner of the Angry Birds mobile phone game which has seen over 2.5 billion downloads since inception, intends to strengthen its presence in emerging gaming markets like India and South East Asia by creating localized games under Rovio Stars<\/a>, a publishing program where it works with local developers, which the company can publish and distribute under its banner to markets outside India.

\nHe added that early stage discussions to look at opportunities of pre-embedding the games in smartphones and building local games, had begun. Angry Birds’ well known characters may also be combined with local game ideas.

\n“There is a definite interest within Rovio to see if we can leverage Angry Birds’ popularity by creating something local, which we would probably want to create with a local partner by using our IP and develop suitable games, for example cricket,” Ohrling said.

\nRovio’s India head also said that the company wants to have its own retail store where it can sell Angry Birds merchandise such as shirts and stuffed toys but did not say when it would come out with its first one here.

The company that completed five years of Angry Birds on December 11 is giving out rewards worth $5 each in six games - Angry Birds, Angry Birds Friends, Angry Birds Transformers<\/a>, Angry Birds Seasons<\/a>, Angry Birds Rio<\/a> and Angry Birds Epic - on Google Play<\/a> which can be redeemed by keying in ANGRY-BIRDS inside these titles, till December 18.

\nRovio is also offering 30 new levels in Angry Birds Classic, created by fans including Google Play themed levels.<\/span><\/span>
