""September 12, that's when we'll know everything about the new Apple iPhone. Since it's the 10th anniversary of iPhone, we're expecting something of a big bang from the company.

Karan Bajaj & Hitesh Raj Bhagat put down some of their thoughts on the rumours. As usual with all rumours, take these with a pinch of salt

Three, Maybe Four Variants

Ever since iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, Apple has been announcing two variants every year: iPhone 6s6s Plus and the current iPhone 77 Plus. This year, we expect the usual upgrade, which means an iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus. In addition to these, in honour of the 10th anniversary of the iPhone, Apple is expected to launch a brand new design which can be called
iPhone 8, iPhone 10, iPhone X, iPhone Pro or even something else -our money is on iPhone 8.There's a slim chance that Apple will also launch a Plus variant of iPhone 8. This will mean that we get to see a total of 4 variants at the event on September 12.

Edge-to-Edge OLED Display

One of the biggest upgrades that remains consistent across all rumours is an edge-toedge display. It's high time, since 18:9 aspect ratio displays are now becoming common. The leaked renders of the iPhone show almost no bezels on all four sides with a cutout towards the top of the display that houses the display electronics, earpiece, camera and sensors. This means that the new iPhone could have a 5.5 or a 5.7-inch screen while staying about the same size as the current
iPhone 7. Because it's OLED, the OS can `handle' the cutout in different ways. For instance, it could allow the display to extend on either side of the cutout or just black out the area, effectively making the cutout disappear.

New Design, Glass Backs

Considering that the iPhone is expected to have an edge-to-edge display, Apple is probably going for a complete design overhaul for the iPhone 8. If rumors are to be believed, the new iPhone will come with an allglass back with the dual camera module placed vertically on the left corner (currently, the dual camera on iPhone 7 Plus is placed horizontally). Since the screen leaves no no space in front, the signature hardware home button with integrated Touch ID might get the axe.Another set of rumors point out that Apple might move the Touch ID fingerprint scanner to the back of the phone -it could be a standalone scanner or integrated into the Apple logo on the back. There are also rumours of a new bronze copper colour which is sort of like a mix between the gold and rose gold.

Face Recognition, Virtual Home Button

So, what happens if Apple removes the Touch ID and home button from the front of the phone completely? The home button is central to the operation of iOS. How would you unlock it and operate it?

The grapevine suggests that Apple is including a 3D face recognition feature for unlocking, enabled by new sensors above the screen. For OS navigation, iOS already offers an optional virtual button that can be enabled in settings. The new iPhone might just make the virtual home button less of an optional item.

Wireless Charging

Glass backs point towards support for wireless charging.Wireless or inductive charging doesn't work through metal but it does work through glass or plastic. Apple fans have been asking for this every year and it seems that it will finally arrive. Apple already offers wireless charging for Apple Watch and other phones have it too so the technology is available.

What's not clear is whether Apple will choose one of the existing standards like Qi or implement something proprietary. Choosing Qi will be easier since accessories are already available.

Improved Hardware, More Storage

Every year, new iPhones get a hardware bump. Apple iPhone 7 and 7 Plus are both powered by 16nm Apple A10 Fusion chips while the new iPhones are expected to have an all-new 10nm Apple A11 processor. This will not only offer a major performance boost but will also improve overall battery life, thanks to improved efficiency. As for storage, we expect the new iPhone to start at 64GB with 256GB and a 512GB options, like the iPad Pro.

Expected Prices

One thousand US dollars, (yes $1,000) is the rumored starting price of the new variant of the iPhone at launch. Over the past few years, Apple has kept the price of the iPhone at about US$ 649699 for the base variant. The new iPhone 7s will probably still start at this price. However, if it's the iPhone 810XPro you want, be ready to shell out big money.

September 12, that's when we'll know everything about the new Apple iPhone.
