This is the third iPhone after the iPhone SE and iPhone 6S that is being manufactured in the country. Now, according to Bloomberg, the Cupertino-based tech firm may soon begin manufacturing the newer ‘iPhone X range’ in India. It has been mentioned that Foxconn, which is also Apple’s primary component manufacturer around the globe, is ‘within weeks’ of starting the trial production of the iPhone X handsets.

If the trial run goes successful, Foxconn will begin producing the new iPhones in it’s Chennai facility. Neither Apple nor Foxconn has replied to these claims made in the report. However, it has been stated that by the time Apple launches its next iPhones, which means around September-October, the Indian assembly line of Foxconn’s Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. will begin manufacturing enough iPhone units to sell them in both local and international markets. The manufacturer will also reportedly invest around $300 million in its facility as the iPhone making capacity increases.

Right now, Foxconn has two facilities in India. While one is in the state of Andhra Pradesh, the second one is in Tamil Nadu. The company is also responsible for manufacturing smartphones from other brands such as Xiaomi, OnePlus and Nokia(HMD).

As for the
iPhone 7 manufacturing, Wistron recently received a green light from the Indian government for its Rs 5000 crore proposal, which will be used to expand the manufacturing capability of the company in the country.
Apple is currently way below in ranks when it comes to Indian smartphone market share. However, in Q4 2019, according to Counterpoint Research, it was one of the leaders in terms of generating revenue in India alongside Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi and Samsung.
