Applied Materials<\/a> India is looking to increase its workforce<\/a> by 10% this financial year, and is currently hiring<\/a> senior software<\/a> engineers, mechanical engineers and technical managers. Recruitment<\/a> is also going on across corporate functions like finance, HR, communications and legal.

The Santa Clara, California-headquartered company is leveraging its regional competencies in
engineering<\/a> and IT to enable faster product development through design, simulation, test, and validation. The company currently has around 5,000 employees (both full-time and contractors) in India.

“The dependency between the global economy and
technology<\/a> is greater today than it’s ever been, and the growth drivers for the semiconductor industry<\/a> are broadening,” Srinivas Satya, country president, told ET.

While consumer devices led electronics demand over the past decade, commercial investments in IoT, big data, AI and 5G infrastructure are poised to lead the next decade and reshape every industry on the planet, from healthcare to agriculture and energy to transportation, Satya said.

About 20% of the hires will be new college graduates (campus hires), said Abhay Singh, senior director of human resources.

“We are also looking to hire leadership
talent<\/a> across areas of product marketing, manufacturing, artificial intelligence and software engineering, to name a few,” Singh added.

India is also seeing tremendous growth in the electronics industry, and its domestic production has grown from $29 billion in 2014-15 to nearly $70 billion in 2019-20 (CAGR of 25%), according to information from the ministry of electronics and IT, government of India. The government has also unveiled three schemes with an outlay of Rs 48,000 crore to promote electronics manufacturing.

With the country grappling with the second wave of Covid-19, the firm has created a special task force called ‘Applied Materials India COVID Response team’ that helps employees in their exigencies. The organisation has also rolled out initiatives to support employee health and safety by providing help with vaccinations, loans towards Covid-related medical expenses, mental health support and grief counselling.
