NEW DELHI: We’re living in an age of constant digital connection, with the proliferation and increased intuitiveness of smartphones. Whether it’s Android,
Blackberry or Apple’s iOS; the numbers of mobile developers and users are growing rapidly. The world is witnessing a trend of mobile applications released daily and India too, is a part of this ‘mobile app trend’.

Gartner reports reinforces that the growth of the mobile media is immense throughout the globe and constantly reshaping how we interact in our everyday lives. Smartphone adoption this year outnumbered the amount of non-smartphones getting purchased with 102 billion app store downloads will be leading to global app revenues to $26 billion in 2013 which is expected to hit $77 billion by 2017.

India, with the large size of the market coupled with growing mobile penetration is considered to be one of the largest markets in this segment.

Technology is changing and evolving at a rapid pace. This is more evident than it seems to be in the applications and mobile phones’ market as mobile phones have already become the most common way to access the internet and the mobile application world continues to expand at a breakneck pace. A stream of new Apps and services are now continually being released to the market for every segment.

Gaming and social networking apps like
Angry Birds and WhatsApp have become popular and mobile payment apps are gaining ground as well. Mobile apps are quick to download and update and can do some really great things. Hence, the need for appropriate apps has also increased for consumers and enterprises both.

In this era of convergence and new media, where digital continues to pick up steam, technologies like
augmented reality, Image recognition and 3D are paving the way for an entirely new trend in the mobile application market.

Application like
Snap2Life which is an amalgamated form of Image recognition and augmented reality makes you experience things live in 3 dimensional mode. It can add an interactive, dynamic digital layer to the traditional physical print to provide the best of both worlds. If you read the sports page in the newspaper, now you can ‘Snap’ the article to watch the highlights of the game or even catch all the news about your favorite star or Politician. You could ‘visit’ the travel destination or ‘Snap’ to buy any product featured in a magazine.

This will prove to be a game changer as it is capable of connecting the printed/video communication to desired digital media, for delivering measurable engagement to consumers.
