""NEW DELHI: Asia Pacific leads in machine-to-machine communications (M2M) adoption globally, and is expected to continue to do so over the next two years as well, the Vodafone Group said in its second annual ‘M2M Adoption Barometer’ on Wednesday.

In 2014, 27% of Africa, Middle East and Asia Pacific-based companies on average have adopted M2M solutions - a 15 point increase over 2013. Average adoption rates were 21% in Europe and 17% in the Americas, the company said in a statement.

The study, carried out by Circle Research, covered more than 600 executives - 38% of whom were from the AMAP region - involved in setting M2M strategy in seven key industries across 14 countries.

The research suggests that M2M, which connects previously isolated machines or devices to the internet to make the ‘Internet of Things’ possible, is now becoming a mainstream solution. It points out that three sectors -
automotive, consumer electronics, and energy & utilities - have emerged as front runners in M2M with nearly 30% adoption rates.

Niklas Ekarv, director of machine-to-machine in Asia Pacific at Vodafone, said that the report leaves no doubt that momentum is accelerating as companies in the region begin to realize the commercial potential of the Internet of Things.

“This technology is transforming whole industries across Asia as companies find new ways to operate and engage with their customers. Greater China is expected to dominate Asian M2M revenues as per Machina Research; followed by Japan, India, Korea and Australia,” Ekarv added.

Twenty two percent of the organisations on average globally have adopted M2M, an increase of over 80% on last year, the Vodafone- Circle Research report said.

The 2014 survey predicts that the AMAP region will continue to lead the rest of the world over the next couple of years, with adoption expected to hit 48% on average across companies based in this region in 2015.

Asia Pacific leads in machine-to-machine communications (M2M) adoption globally, and is expected to continue to do so over the next two years as well, the Vodafone Group said in its second annual ‘M2M Adoption Barometer’ on Wednesday.
["3G/4G","Vodafone","consumer electronics","Automotive","machine-to-machine communications","energy & utilities
asia-pacific-leads-in-m2m-adoption-in-2014-vodafone-circle-research-study"}}" data-authors="[" "]" data-category-name="" data-category_id="" data-date="2014-08-25" data-index="article_1">
