Minister for information technology
Rohan Khaunte<\/a> has ordered Software and Technology Parks of India (STPI), the third-party auditor for (GBBN) to conduct a detailed audit of the existing GBBN infrastructure.

“The audit has already begun. STPI is currently evaluating the quality of the fiber cable, area of the network, condition of the network and its redundancy,” said a senior DoIT official.

Though STPI has been undertaking quarterly audits of GBBN, the ministry wants a detailed audit since the contract with United Telecoms Limited (UTL), which maintains the network, will come to an end in 2019. The final decision on whether to extend the contract or get in a new technology partner will depend on the STPI report, said sources.

As the state government makes a push for providing citizen centric services through online channels, the reliability of GBBN becomes critical. “The entire administration of the state is dependent on the GBBN backbone,” said a DoIT official.

Goa government had inked a public-private-partnership agreement with UTL, which undertakes last mile connectivity for domestic users at the village level under GWave, to setup the GBBN. “STPI has begun the process to recruit experts to help in the audit,” said a DoIT official.
