NEW DELHI: Bharti Airtel is expected to report losses to the tune of Rs 400 crore in March quarter earnings due later on Monday. The impact of December quarter tariff hikes could not be fully seen in fourth quarter numbers due to the ongoing country-wide lockdown.

Analysts said investors would want to see the impact of tariff hikes on average
revenue per user (Arpu) and what the company says about the Covid-19 hit in coming quarters. Any commentary on Africa business will also be keenly followed.

Motilal Oswal Securities expects the telecom operator to reported a of Rs 400 crore loss compared with Rs 1,200 crore reported for the same quarter last year. Revenue for the quarter is projected to rise 12.9 per cent YoY to Rs 23,300 crore from Rs 20,600 crore. Dolat Capital sees losses at Rs 296.60 crore and sales at Rs 22,959 crore. Ebitda margin is seen improving to 43 per cent, up 1,077 basis points.

"YoY Ebitda will not be comparable due to Ind-AS implementation," it said.

Credit Suisse said that it would look for any management commentary on the impact of Covid-19 on its business and the Arpu upside from December 2019 price hikes.

"Due to the lockdown in the wake of Covid-19, we expect full flow through of December 2019 tariff hikes to get delayed against an earlier expectation of full flow through by June quarter. Subscriber market share gains for Bharti
Airtel are expected to moderate with key subscriber acquisition channels remaining shut during the lockdown," Credit Suisse said.

Edelweiss said Africa business is particularly at risk, should commodity prices stay persistently low, as seen during H1FY17 when the crude oil plunge triggered a currency crisis in Nigeria. An eye on international business will this be important.

Credit Suisse said while fixed broadband and Digital TV will benefit from the lockdown, these segments constitute only 6 per cent of Airtel's consolidated revenues and 8.6 per centof consolidated Ebitda for Bharti Airtel.
