\"The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will create robust infrastructure and attract investments in creating next-generation of communication infrastructure and compliances,\" Dhotre said on the sidelines of telecom department inking alliance with the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER<\/a>) on operationalising the broadband readiness index Tuesday
The new index will access the states digital readiness both on the demand and supply parameters that would also spur competitiveness among them, and create new opportunities in the wireless infrastructure space.
Dhotre also said that the index would create a collaborative institutional mechanism between the Centre, states and local bodies and other stakeholders.
The parametres include the infrastructure supply side including broadband penetration in states and Union Territories and households with computing devices.
\"For the first time, we are accessing the state-wise digital infrastructure and their readiness to roll out infrastructure. We are accessing nine parameters and secondly look at the demand side,\" telecom secretary Aruna Sundararajan<\/a> said.
She added that the department has been working with states since the release of Right-of-Way 2016 policy.
ICRIER chief executive Rajat Kathuria said that the idea was to incentivise the states which invest in putting up telecom infrastructure.
\"The index will help in promoting ease of doing business, getting RoW clearances and relaxing the exorbitant levies imposed by states,” Tilak Raj Dua, director general at the Tower and Infrastructure Providers Association (Taipa) said.
Fibre, according to Delhi-based group, is fundamental for extending broadband services and to make 5G a success story for India.
