\"\" NEW DELHI: Internet<\/a> firm Spectra<\/a> is investing Rs 200 crores in making fibre optic-based network deeper and resilient in its eight operational cities by March 2019, and has launched a new broadband plan that cuts data cost to as low as Rs 6 per GB.

“We plan to invest Rs 200 crore till 2018-19 fiscal end and will continue to invest more into our network to go deeper into cities so that we can reach out to as many households as we can,” Spectra chief executive
Udit Mehrotra<\/a> told ETTelecom.

\nGurugram-based company, formerly known as Spectranet, has already earmarked Rs 100 crore for the current fiscal, and aims to enroll at least 2.5 to 3 million of the 10 million potential subscribers’ in large cities such as Delhi-NCR, Chennai, Bangaluru, Mumbai, Chennai and Pune.

\nThe company claims to have a subscriber base of nearly 200,000 or 20% market share currently in eight large cities, and serves more than 5,000 corporate customers through its fibre-only network.
\n
\n“Today, usage pattern is changing, and a high-speed download and upload is only possible through a fibre-based connectivity that allows 100 Mbps data speed,” Spectra top executive said.
\n
\nThe Internet service provider has introduced Rs 899 a month plan that allows 150 GB data at 100 Mbps speed which the company said effectively brings per GB cost as low as to Rs 6. The plan also allows consumers to rollover their unused data quota to next month.

The development, however comes at a time when billionaire Mukesh Ambani-owned
Reliance<\/a> Jio is aggressively expanding its fibre-based network in large cities, and plans to launch affordable JioFiber plans by the end of this year.

\nSpectra is also offering an unlimited Internet plan at Rs 1,250 at a 100 Mbps speed, which the firm said, has no fair usage policy (FUP) cap.
\n
\n“We have also partnered Hungama, and have got some entertainment bundled plans,” Mehrotra added.
\n
\nRival Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) that has a leadership in wired Internet services, offers a high-end unlimited fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) plan at Rs 2,641 that allows consumers 175 GB data at 8 Mbps speed.

\nFollowing the Jio’s strategy, state-run BSNL earlier said that it was open to revamp its fixed broadband offerings to match tariff with that of Jio’s fibre plans.
\n
\nIn May, Sunil Mittal-driven Bharti Airtel has also launched a 1000 GB offer, which according to the company, is available to only Delhi-NCR consumers subscribing to broadband services with select plans.

\n“We are a very urban focused service provider, and we will continue to invest in Delhi,” the Spectra executive said.
