The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet<\/a> (ACC) conveyed additional charge of the post of chairman and managing director (CMD), MTNL is entrusted to PK Purwar<\/a>, CMD, BSNL<\/a> with immediate effect for a period of six months from the date of assumption of charge or until further orders, whichever is earlier, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT<\/a>) in a notification said.
Prior to joining BSNL, Purwar was holding the top position at state-run MTNL which operates in Mumbai and Delhi only while BSNL offers telecom services in the rest of the country.

The move is expected to further enable the two companies to merge together which is also a part of the overall revival scheme.

Following the superannuation of Anupam Shrivastava<\/a>, Purwar was appointed as a chairman of BSNL on July 1.
Purwar, a 1990-batch Indian P&T Accounts & Finance Service officer, will retire on June 30, 2025, and is replacing MTNL's Sunil Kumar who is also heading Human Resources (HR) at the state-driven telco.
In October 2019, following his close coordination with the DoT, the Cabinet has finally approved a mega rescue package for the state-owned telecom companies BSNL and MTNL.
The move is expected to further enable the two companies to merge together which is also a part of the overall revival scheme.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet<\/a> (ACC) conveyed additional charge of the post of chairman and managing director (CMD), MTNL is entrusted to PK Purwar<\/a>, CMD, BSNL<\/a> with immediate effect for a period of six months from the date of assumption of charge or until further orders, whichever is earlier, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT<\/a>) in a notification said.
Prior to joining BSNL, Purwar was holding the top position at state-run MTNL which operates in Mumbai and Delhi only while BSNL offers telecom services in the rest of the country.
During the period of holding the additional charge at MTNL, Purwar, according to the notification, would not be entitled to any additional remuneration.
