NEW DELHI: As the state-owned carriers BSNL<\/a> (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) and MTNL<\/a> (Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited<\/a>) are incessantly loosing mobile revenue to private operators, despite turnaround plans, the telecom department believes that synergy between the two could facilitate enterprise business.

\nThe BSNL-MTNL merger plans are however on hold, for now, but the department is determined offer exceptional services to business customers, and feels that interoperability between the two organizations; is a panacea to offer superior enterprise-class pan-India solutions.

Speaking to ETTelecom, telecom secretary MF Farooqui<\/a> said that BSNL-MTNL merger was not something that they were looking immediately. “We are harmonizing the activities of both the companies. There are many areas that require attention,” he said.

\nThere are many businesses in metros such as Mumbai and Delhi, but rest are spread across the country, said top telecom official. Farooqui also informed that the department is focusing to resolve issues between the two so as they could offer good solutions to enterprise sector.

\nBoth telcos– BSNL and MTNL have, on last month, entered into MoU (memorandum of understanding) to enhance enterprise products and services portfolio across India. The services include VPN (virtual private networks), toll-free numbers, UAN service and televoting.
