$\"\"$ NEW DELHI: Finance Minister Arun Jaitley while presenting the Union Budget 2018-19 Thursday said that as many as 99 cities were selected under the ambitious Smart city mission at an outlay of Rs 2.04 lakh crore.

\nInfrastructure is a growth driver for the country. In the Smart City Mission that aims 100 cities, 99 smart cities have been selected and to be allocated Rs 2.04 lakh crore, Jaitley informed the Parliament.

Smart Cities Mission is one of the ambitious initiatives of the Narendra-Modi led National Democratic Alliance (NDA<\/a>) government IN June 2015 that aims to develop 100 cities across India that would also harness the Information Communication Technology (ICT<\/a>) capabilities.

\nThe Urban Development Ministry, in the first phase selected 20 cities in January 2016.
