The Finance Minister has proposed the setting up of three Centres of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence to focus on agriculture, healthcare and sustainable cities. The industry said that there was scope to expand this further, given the potential across other industries too.
“While Agriculture, Healthcare & Sustainable Cities are the current focus of CoE’s, India has multidimensional potential – AI can add an estimated $450-500 billion to India’s GDP by 2025, and more than 60% will be from four key sectors – Financial Services, Consumer Packaged Goods & Retail, Healthcare, and Industrials & Automotive. India will need to continue to invest in these centers to keep pace with the evolving asks across all sectors,” said Rekha M Menon, Chairperson and Senior Managing Director at Accenture in India.
The industry has also welcomed the focus on skilling through technology.
The Skill India Digital Platform will expand the digital ecosystem for skilling by enabling demand based formal skilling, linked with employers and facilitating access to entrepreneurship schemes.
CP Gurnani, Managing Director & Chief Executive Director, Tech Mahindra Said,“The push towards comprehensive skilling of youth, Industry 4.0, Coding, Internet of Things (IoT), and the establishment of a dedicated AI Center of Excellence, is a visionary move that will lead to job creation and give a competitive edge to India’s talented workforce. Further, the special emphasis on energy transition will enable India to lead by example on the sustainability front towards a net zero emissions economy.”
The technology companies have also welcomed the opportunity to be a part of initiatives aimed at furthering the Digital India story.
“To fully realize the benefits of this technological revolution, it is important to continue to advance the story of Digital India with a focus on accessibility.
