CH\"\"ENNAI: Chinese computing devices<\/a> manufacturer Lenovo<\/a> is confident it will sail to the top position this quarter in the 10-million-a-year personal computer market in India, buoyed by the Tamil Nadu<\/a> government’s scheme to distribute laptops to the electorate in a bid to drive empowerment.

Lenovo has been supplying dual operating system laptops to the Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu for the
free laptops scheme<\/a>. It is now executing an order for 6 lakh laptops for which two-thirds have already been supplied.

“We usually get a window for 150 days to execute these orders. Although we cater to such schemes in Odisha and other states, the order magnitude of Tamil Nadu is higher. This government order will help us reach the top slot in the
PC market<\/a> in India,” said Rahul Agarwal<\/a>, Managing Director and CEO-India Region for Lenovo.

\nLenovo officials were in Chennai to announce its laptop financing scheme offered in partnership with Bajaj Fin Serv and network service provider Tata Docomo.

\nIn India Lenovo sells smartphones and larger computing devices such as laptops and notebooks in range between Rs 20,000 and over Rs 1 lakh. It has seen rapid traction in smartphones for which it began domestic manufacture through a partner in Chennai. Over the last few years personal computer shipments into India have seen a gradual decline, though the last few quarters have been promising.

\nLenovo has launched a campaign to push adoption of its personal computers by tying up with financiers to make its devices affordable.
