NEW DELHI: Finnish telecom infrastructure major Nokia has thrown its hat into BSNL’s Rs 17,000-crore-plus network modernisation project, saying it can set up 4G services for the state-owned company in a record period of 3-4 months using equipment made at its factory in Chennai.
“We are ready to carry out the 4G project for BSNL, and we can make the network ready in just 3-4 months in areas where our equipment is already being used,” Nokia’s India business head Sanjay Malik told TOI.
The company had set up BSNL’s network in west and south India, and is confidentthat the upgradation can be achieved in a record time. Asked whether Nokia can also set up the network in northern and eastern India, he said, “It can also be done, but we will need more time. ”
Malik said Nokia has been growing its manufacturing in India, and makes 5G equipment export markets too. “We have been making 5G equipment in India since two years, and this is then exported to markets all across the globe, including the US and Europe. India is now part of the global supply chain of Nokia, and we are now in the process of ramping up capacities to factor in additional demand that will be generated within India. ”
