\nBharatNet aims to bring broadband connectivity to all 2.5 lakh gram panchayats in the country with a revised deadline of March 2019.

\nThe new plan which is aimed to fast track the project conceived by UPA-II government in 2011, will rely on various broadband technologies for last-mile access that include fibre, radio and satellite.

\nThe model has been changed after the project faced deployment issues in the first phase, which have led to several deadline extensions and increase in the project’s initial approved budget of Rs 20,100 crore.

The project is being financed from the Universal Service Obligation (
