HP, Dell, and Lenovo were the top three PC vendors in India in the January-March quarter, as per IDC.

The executive said that Honor also has a plan to launch an exclusive laptop for India. “India is a very important market globally for us. We want to learn from the Indian market. We plan to launch a laptop which is designed for India, and will be made in India.”

Honor is currently in talks with various contract manufacturers to start local production of its laptops and other IoT products. “We have a strategy to manufacture these products in India. But, we need to ensure the same quality coming from local production,” Charles said.

Jaipal Singh, Associate Research Manager, Client Devices, IDC India said that Rs 40,000 will be a very competitive price for Honor in India. “They have done well in China in Q1 2020 and already became the number 2 consumer brand in the PC segment. “This is a growing segment and for Honor, it aligns well with respect to supply chain sourcing. However, unlike
smartphones<\/a> purchase decisions in this category are based more on word of mouth and that’s where Honor may face some challenges,” Pathak added.

Singh, however, added that there hasn’t been any impact of anti-china sentiment in this segment. “There were concerns, but inventory isn’t available so the impact wasn’t there.”

Honor will launch 9A and 9S smartphones in India. The executive said that after the lockdown, the market is seeing a lot of demand for sub-Rs 10,000 smartphones.

Notably, all new
Honor smartphones<\/a> run Huawei Mobile Services (HMS), which is an alternative to Google Mobile Services (GMS).

Under this broad Internet of Things (IoT) strategy for India, Honor is also planning to launch Wi-Fi Routers and smart speakers in India. It had also planned to launch its Smart TV, which it will launch in the fourth quarter.
