There is an increase in the scope, scale and speed at which companies are undertaking digital transformation initiatives, a senior Tech Mahindra executive said, as a result of the spurt in digitisation due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Data analytics and
Cloud go hand in hand and are close to a billion dollars each for us. We are doing a lot of work in this area with customers,” said Jagdish Mitra, chief strategy officer and head of growth, Tech Mahindra.

The big opportunity is in converting the existing more than 1,000 accounts to a Cloud environment, and Mitra said the company was also winning large deals outside of these accounts.

These units are growing at over 20%, and given the potential in this segment, are expected to grow rapidly, he added.

The virus outbreak has also led to several industries fast-tracking their digital initiatives.

Across sectors, but particularly in manufacturing, retail and healthcare, companies are now exploring how to adopt new technologies and that is opening up new avenues for Tech Mahindra, Mitra said.

The biggest shift that the pandemic has brought about is that the scale and scope of the projects being undertaken has increased, with companies now undertaking digitisation for multiple or all parts of their business rather than just a few, he said.

The rollout of 5G expected to be the biggest growth driver in the next fiscal year, with
communications being the biggest vertical for the company.

“Over the mid- to long-term, we expect at least a couple of other verticals to cross a billion dollars apart from communication,” said Mitra.

These are likely to be the manufacturing and BFSI units, which are currently the largest verticals after communications.

The company is seeing an increase in the large deals pipeline for its retail business and significant growth in others like high-tech, and healthcare and life sciences.

Communications comprises about 40% of the company’s total revenues, followed by manufacturing and BFSI at about 16% each.

Within the Cloud business, Tech Mahindra has partnerships with Cloud providers like
AWS, Google Cloud and Azure, as well as with IBM for hybrid cloud.

It has invested in creating its own set of frameworks based on domain or vertical expertise which it brings together as part of its solution.

With the adoption of remote work on the up, the focus will now be on figuring out a better hybrid working model, he said.

Tech Mahindra has categorised its investments into four areas --- networks, the Cloudification of everything and the data and
AI layer on top of it, followed by human centred experience.

Its recent acquisitions tie in with this focus, Mitra said.
