The Centre aims to auction spectrum in multiple bands by the mid of this year that includes airwaves in the 3300 MHz-3600 MHz band recommended by the sector regulator in 2018. It had fixed a base price of Rs 492-crore per unit on pan India basis which the telecom carriers termed as too high.

Last month, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman<\/a> in her budget speech proposed to use a part of USO funds to promote research and development (R&D) activities locally that, according to analysts, would lead to fuel innovation and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) creation.
