"The challenge is when a new technology comes in. With 4G and 5G being rolled out, and private wireless happening now, the need for business support systems (BSS) is evolving," Manoranjan Mohapatra, chief executive, Comviva told ETTelecom.

Comviva, a part of Tech Mahindra, said that the current operations support system (OSS) and business support systems (BSS) market remain captivated with a few large players. The company competes with the likes of US-based
Amdocs and Netcracker.

"The experience changes the way customer onboarding happens. So for anybody who has merged two telecom operations or as many heterogeneous suppliers, we have an ideal solution to help with a unified customer experience," Mohapatra said.

Bharti Airtel deployed the company's CRM product for its prepaid subscribers in India, while Airtel Sri Lanka uses a comprehensive BSS stack of BlueMarble, according to the top executive.

Last month, Tata Play deployed Comviva's BlueMarble platform to offer access to multiple over-the-top (OTT) applications through a single subscription.

BlueMarble, an order management solution, designed for service providers, offers billing, revenue and subscription related operations for businesses, and is 5G ready, providing custom-built customer experience.

Mohapatra said that the company operates in the US and Europe markets, and has plans to expand. "We have a few customers in the digital BSS space in Europe, including
Vodafone Germany, and the company serves as many as 10 telecom service operators in the US."

The company's current focus, however, includes the Middle East, Africa, Southeast Asia regions.
