Thiruvananthapuram: IT department<\/a>, anticipating a hike in internet usage<\/a>, met telecom providers<\/a> on Wednesday to explore possibilities of ensuring uninterrupted internet as people are avoiding public contacts after new Covid-19<\/a> cases were reported recently in state. Telecom providers<\/a> agreed to raise 30-40% efficiency of their services considering the emergency where more people are working from home or switching to digital options for various needs.

After a cabinet decision on Tuesday, chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who is also the minister for IT, had assigned electronics and
IT department<\/a> to ensure that necessary steps are taken considering the rise in use of internet-based services.

Then, IT secretary T Sivasankar and department officials met representatives of Reliance Jio, BSNL, Vodafone, Airtel, Asianet, Tata Teleservice and central power grid corporation.
