The tower companies cautioned if unresolved, this may cause a huge impediment in the growth and progress of the telecom
industry.

The
Digital Infrastructure Providers Association in a letter to Maharashtra Chief Secretary, Debashish Chakraborty, has asked for the implementation of the Right of Way (RoW) 2018 policy as local authorities are formulating their own policies in contravention to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) guidelines.

DIPA has also urged that the regularization clause for all existing towers should be incorporated into the state’s RoW policy, adding that there is an urgent need to rationalize property tax considering other “progressive states” charge a fixed property tax on the telecom towers.

DIPA further added that the "local municipal bodies are appropriating the payment of property tax towards ‘Shasti’ and showing the property tax in arrears, further levying thereon interest as penalty and taking coercive actions along with a threat to seal against the telecom towers to recover the alleged property tax".
