根据修订条款33 (IV) UASL规则,“活跃的基础设施共享相关的无线设备,如无线网络路由器、接入点和回程的共享”是允许的。
直到目前为止,活跃的基础设施共享授权服务提供者之间仅限于天线馈线电缆,节点b,无线接入网络(RAN)和传输系统。

<\/figure>Kolkata: The Department of Telecommunications<\/a> (DoT<\/a>) has amended the unified access service licence (UASL<\/a>) rules, widening the scope of active infrastructure sharing<\/a> to give a boost to public WiFi services and drive broadband penetration<\/a>.Under the amended Clause 33 (IV) of the UASL rules, \u201cactive infrastructure sharing related to WiFi equipment such as WiFi routers, access points and the sharing of backhaul\u201d has been allowed.
Till date, active infrastructure-sharing between licensed service providers was limited to antennae, feeder cables, Node Bs, radio access network (RAN) and transmission systems.
<\/div><\/div>\u201cThe amendment will be part and parcel of UASL agreements, and will be effective with immediate effect,\u201d DoT said in a notification on Tuesday.
Four years ago, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India<\/a> (Trai<\/a>) had called on the DoT to amend licence rules to pave the way for active-infrastructure sharing for public WiFi services, with an aim to boost affordable broadband penetration.

It had specifically urged the department to issue a clarification that sharing of WiFi equipment infrastructure such as WiFi routers, access points and backhaul be allowed, which would help deliver public WiFi optimally. This, since telecom service providers would be able to reduce both their capex and opex spends by sharing the relevant WiFi infrastructure.
Back in 2016, the DoT had originally permitted the sharing of active telecoms infrastructure like antennae, feeder cables and transmission systems with an aim to speed up network rollouts and lower costs for telcos. Prior to that, telecom service providers were only allowed to share passive network infrastructure such as mobile towers.
<\/div><\/div>Incidentally, the latest widening of active infrastructure sharing rules come just over four months after the Union Cabinet<\/a> had cleared a proposal to boost national broadband penetration through the public WiFi route using unlicensed entities, something like the PCO<\/a> model of yore.

It had specifically urged the department to issue a clarification that sharing of WiFi equipment infrastructure such as WiFi routers, access points and backhaul be allowed, which would help deliver public WiFi optimally. This, since telecom service providers would be able to reduce both their capex and opex spends by sharing the relevant WiFi infrastructure.
Back in 2016, the DoT had originally permitted the sharing of active telecoms infrastructure like antennae, feeder cables and transmission systems with an aim to speed up network rollouts and lower costs for telcos. Prior to that, telecom service providers were only allowed to share passive network infrastructure such as mobile towers.
<\/div><\/div>Incidentally, the latest widening of active infrastructure sharing rules come just over four months after the Union Cabinet<\/a> had cleared a proposal to boost national broadband penetration through the public WiFi route using unlicensed entities, something like the PCO<\/a> model of yore.

It had specifically urged the department to issue a clarification that sharing of WiFi equipment infrastructure such as WiFi routers, access points and backhaul be allowed, which would help deliver public WiFi optimally. This, since telecom service providers would be able to reduce both their capex and opex spends by sharing the relevant WiFi infrastructure.
Back in 2016, the DoT had originally permitted the sharing of active telecoms infrastructure like antennae, feeder cables and transmission systems with an aim to speed up network rollouts and lower costs for telcos. Prior to that, telecom service providers were only allowed to share passive network infrastructure such as mobile towers.
<\/div><\/div>Incidentally, the latest widening of active infrastructure sharing rules come just over four months after the Union Cabinet<\/a> had cleared a proposal to boost national broadband penetration through the public WiFi route using unlicensed entities, something like the PCO<\/a> model of yore.
