Highlighting that globally the telecom industry was consolidating and the structure of the telecom industry was undergoing a major change, Vaishaw said, capital intensity in the sector had increased while technology cycles were reducing.

On benchmarking India’s regulator structure against global standards, the minister said, last year's reforms in September 2021, had made the industry structure fairly simplified, many structural reforms had happened and many procedural reforms had also happened.

“Under the
PM Gati Shakti<\/a> portal for Rights of Way (RoW) approvals, 32 states have joined in our federal structure for a simultaneous, simplified approval system for RoW and the credit goes to honorable PM’s vision,” Vaishnaw said while addressing the silver jubilee event celebrating 25 years of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India<\/a> (Trai).

Crediting the PM with the proposal to simplify procedures, Vaishnaw explained, the PM had asked
DoT<\/a> for an integrated and simplified way of planning. “The result is that what used to take 100 days for approvals is now taking on average 22 days for RoW approval,” Vaishnaw said. He added that reforms in the wireless and planning cell were underway.

On technological leadership, Vaishaw said, under Atmanirbhar BharatIndian scientists and engineers had developed a complete 4G technology stack which was ready for deployment by BSNL and that the 5G technology stack was also in an advanced stage of development.

“By the end of this year we should see our own indigenously developed 5 G technology stack . The stack will have a complete ecosystem for development which includes a 5G test bed and a complete ecosystem for product development,\" Vaishnaw said.

“Our department (Department of Telecommunications) decided on the reforms six months ago and by the end of this month, all reforms will come into effect… these will be citizen-centric,” Chauhan said. <\/p><\/div>
