Normally, you wouldn’t want to give a phone to your kids. You would be worried about radiation levels, about them misusing the phone, about them having unfiltered access to the internet and so on. But this is a phone that you, as a parent, can have complete control over. First off, the radiation levels are well below all limits. Second, it doesn’t allow any access to the internet. It doesn’t even have a numeric keypad to make calls. (You’re probably thinking that it doesn’t even sound like a phone —but it does have a slot for a SIM card). Third, it can make\/receive calls, but only if you allow it. And fourth, you can access the phone’s GPS<\/a> location remotely. Here’s how that works.
The company that makes it specialises in phones for senior citizens — large numbers, large keys, loud ringtones, SOS button and so on. The Star is a modified version of that phone with children in mind. It can only make calls to pre-defined numbers — and it can only receive calls from pre-defined numbers.
To keep things foolproof, these things can only be changed by logging in to a website — it’s a service called CareTouch that is included in the price of the phone. The phone itself looks like a feature phone, has a GPS receiver, a 1.77-inch colour screen and a few configurable keys. To start, you (the parent) will need to put a SIM card in the Star phone and create a login ID on the company’s website.

You can assign your own quick dial numbers (accessed via the four large buttons on the phone) and input the numbers (including land lines) that are allowed to call it. There’s also an SOS function that can automatically call and message emergency contacts (plus many other configurable settings). It works with all service providers (except Jio — which only works on a 4G phone).
You can get any basic plan on the number with 1GB data per month (Rs 149\/month, for instance) - the requirements of the phone are very little. Charging is super simple because it comes with a charging dock. And other features include auto call back and discreet listening (works from authorised numbers only).
