\"\"NEW DELHI: Tokyo-based telecom giant NTT Communications<\/a> is planning to open a new data centre through its subsidiary Netmagic<\/a> in Mumbai by the end of current calendar year with an investment of $100 million.

\nNetmagic Solutions, a managed services provider, was acquired by NTT Communications in 2012. NTT, which offers voice and video solutions and network services to customers, holds a 74% stake in Netmagic, which is currently growing at around 35% annually.

\nData centers are heavily dependent on uninterrupted power supply. NTT has chosen India’s financial capital Mumbai over other locations and since the metropolitan hosts many corporate headquarters, the company expects it to be a big business driver.

“The new data centre coming up in Q3 2015 will be spread across 3-lakh square-feet and can host up to 3,000 server racs with 20MW-28MW energy capacity,”
Sharad Sanghi<\/a>, Managing Director and Chief Executive of Netmagic, said.
\n“We are investing $100 million in new data centre and it will have carrier-neutral business model and have got some anchor booking and hope to get more customers as we move along,” he added.

\nThis will be NTT Communications' ninth data centre in India.

\nWith a robust managed services portfolio in the country, NTT Communications is eyeing India for its business needs and said that it will also announce global cloud services by year end to facilitate multinational companies.

\nCompetition in the cloud market both - domestic and internationally - is growing, and global giants such as Microsoft, Amazon, Google and IBM have aggressive plans to put up data centers in India to accommodate growing business needs and cater to enterprise and public sector.

\nLast September, Microsoft announced that it would be opening data centers in India by the end of 2015.
\n
\nDuring India visit last year, Microsoft chief executive Satya Nadella said that cloud business in India itself is going to be a $2 trillion opportunity.

\nTill now, Singapore and Hong Kong gain over India due to infrastructure readiness, low-cost bandwidth and power availability.
\n
\nThe data centre, according to Netmagic, will have four different fibre pathways. The company however refused to divulge further details and added that the Mumbai data centre customers include global cloud service providers, and banking and finance companies.

\nThe Japanese telecommunications giant is also planning to expand further its data centre base to Hyderabad and Pune, and added that with the government’s ambitious Digital India plan, they are seeing new business demand coming their way.

\nEstablished in 2005, NTT Communications has Indian headquarters in Gurgaon and operates as a cloud services, data centre and system integration provider, and has also started operations at its newest facility at Ahmadabad in Gujarat to principally serve Japanese customers.

\nNTT Communications is also in the process to get a unified license for national long- distance services (NLD) through Indian entity NTT Communications India Network Services which, according to company would be established in May, 2015.
