Distributed Denial of Service<\/a> (DDoS, 30%), followed by ransomware and malware protection services (33%), and automation of security policies (28%), among others, are the top priorities for network security investments of CSPs in India, as per the report which was released Monday.
It found that 100% of the Indian service providers surveyed expect to see traffic volumes rise in the next 2-3 years.
“Although upgrading firewalls and other security appliances came out top, this was less dominant than it was two years ago when we did our first CSP survey,” said Anthony Webb, vice-president of A10 International.
This underscores the need for today’s network security strategy to be wide-ranging with a “Well-rounded approach” that can mitigate the full range of emerging threats to maintain a high quality, reliable, and secure service for customers, Webb added.
The report noted that enterprise cloud migration has been a strong trend over the past decade, and has been further accelerated by the pandemic. It said that 27% respondents said cloud transition has directly generated revenue while 20% have evolved to offer public cloud and managed data center services.
“It is interesting to see that one in four CSPs say they have gained revenue as customers have distributed workloads and data center functions between private, on premises and public cloud. This cloud transition is also evident when it comes to key purchasing criteria for network equipment, as being in a cloud native form factor was a must-have criteria, with 31% Indian respondents saying this,” said Webb.
The report found that IPv6 transition remains an ongoing challenge, with only 23% expecting to achieve this in the next 2-3 years, while 36% of respondents aim to run IPv4 and IPv6 in parallel.
The findings are based on a survey conducted among 2,750 senior IT professionals from a range of communication service providers across 11 regions around the world, including India.
