In his first communication to employees after stepping into the role on Thursday, Krithivasan gave a sneak peek into the company's future bets while also recounting some of his positive experiences during his 34 years of work at the company. ET has reviewed a copy of the email.
"As we step into the next phase of TCS, we will continue our investments in key and emerging areas like cloud, cybersecurity, 5G, IoT, generative AI, etc., with an unrelenting focus on customer relationships and impeccable delivery," the 58-year-old TCS veteran said.
"I have had the opportunity to work with many of you and built long-lasting friendships which I cherish the most," Krithivasan said in the email, titled 'Let's script an exciting future'.
"I have also had the opportunity to work with many of our key clients across different geographies and build deep customer relationships. I step into this role on the strength of these friendships and relationships," he added.
Krithivasan stepped in after Rajesh Gopinathan abruptly stepped down as managing director and CEO of the IT giant to pursue other interests. He will remain with the company till September 16 in an advisory role.
The TCS stock ended around 1% higher at Rs 3,323.20 Thursday on the BSE where the benchmark Sensex closed 0.31% lower.
Krithivasan, an IIT-Kanpur alumnus, was previously president and global head of banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) vertical that accounts for nearly a third of the company's revenue.
ET earlier reported, citing top executives in the know, that Krithivasan has been mandated to focus on customers, arrest attrition and make the $28 billion IT company an employer of choice in a challenging global business scenario.
The CEO will spend much of the next six months on the road, meeting customers as he settles into the role.
The change of leadership for TCS comes at a time when the IT services industry faces a lull in demand, slowdown in hiring, high inflation in Europe and a shift of confidence in the banking ecosystem in the US, in the backdrop of the Russia-Ukraine war.
Krithivasan told ET in an interview earlier this year that while the global macroeconomic situation was uncertain, it was not challenging. “The thing to focus on is to stay close to customers, stay relevant to them, and offer them with new solutions,” Krithivasan had said. “And every time a crisis hits, actually, I personally believe we have come out stronger.”
Krithivasan will have to cope with a few more senior-level exits within a year. Chief technology officer K Ananth Krishnan, who was instrumental in changing the TCS model from outsourcing to a consulting focus, is retiring in October.
Chief operating officer NG Subramaniam, who led TCS’ strategy in areas like artificial intelligence and fifth-generation mobile network solutions, will also retire in May next year.
