\n Wipro<\/a> has appointed one of its senior vice presidents on the board of Opera<\/a> Solutions, the data analytics firm in which it holds close to 14% stake, as the Bangalore-based software company looks to balance its services-led growth model with hyper-automation model.<\/span><\/p>\n \n\tJeff Heenan-Jalil, Global Head of Wipro's Advanced Technologies & Solutions, took a board seat at Opera Solutions on July 2 and will help the country's third largest information technology company \"foster and accelerate\" its partnership with the New Jersey-based data analytics firm, to help win more clients and improve margins, said a senior executive of Opera.<\/p>\n \"This (appointment<\/a> of Jeff) is a part of overarching strategy being implemented by TK (TK Kurien, CEO Wipro) as the company tries to balance it services-led model with hyper-automation model,\" said Arnab Gupta, founder and executive chairman of Opera Solutions.<\/p>\n \n\tJeff will replace KR Sanjiv, who was earlier Wipro's representative at Opera and is now the chief technology officer at Wipro.<\/p>\n \n\tWipro maintains that its partnership with data analytics firm Opera Solutions has helped it open \"new engagements\", especially in the banking and financial services space.<\/p>\n \n\t\"By offering solutions in 'change-the-business' (space), we get room to bid for the bread-and-butter business (contracts) which helps open new engagements,\" Rajan Kohli, head of banking and financial services at Wipro told ET in an interview in June. \"The next frontier of automations is services, and the cost of delivery will decrease significantly below the labour cost arbitrage model today, and Jeff's appointment will help Wipro further boost productivity across businesses it services,\" Gupta told ET.<\/p>\n \n\tAn email seeking comments from Wipro remained unanswered.<\/p>\n \n\tIn April this year, Wipro shuffled its top deck, and merged two divisions operating in the areas of social, mobile, analytics and cloud computing, known as Smac.<\/p>\n \n\tIt tasked Jeff, who is based in London and headed the Advanced Technologies service line, to run the combined business with the Analytics and Information Management unit. Advanced Technologies, whose focus is Smac, was headed until October last year by Shaji Farooq, head of banking, financial services and insurance. Executives at both Opera and Wipro deny any possibility for now of Wipro increasing its stake in the data analytics company, which is believed to have revenues of $100 million.<\/p>\n \n\t\"We have had a healthy partnership until now. It is in line with the company's strategy of partnering start ups and there is no intention of Wipro's part to buy us out,\" said a senior executive of Opera.<\/p>\n \n\tWipro, which has been trying to boost its banking, financial services and insurance vertical, first spent $30 million to buy a little less than 6.5% stake in Opera in May 2013.
