“We are looking to partner with handset makers in India. We are\n also working with Chinese OEMs; as their market share is growing, they can also be our partners here,” Charles P.C. Chen, head of business development, Asia, Mozilla told ET.
Even though Mozilla doesn’t have an office in India currently, the company says it has more than 10,000 Mozilla community members spread out in the country which gives it a unique advantage to actualize anything it needs on the ground.
Although, the non-profit company is open to setting up an office in the country if required.
“We want to launch products that are relevant for users in India. We're brainstorming and ideating with our existing partners to see if there's an opportunity for us that we can work towards,” told Joe Cheng<\/a>, head of product, Asia, Mozilla.
Mozilla has been one of the key players in the privacy debate across the world and the company also held a round table conference in December last year to discuss ‘Privacy Matters in India’.
Talking about the company’s well-known lean data policy, Cheng explained that Mozilla collects data only when it needs help to improve its product.
“…We don't collect everything. We collect as minimal data as possible. We never collect personal identifiable information. We already have a very high bar when it comes to data privacy. ”
Mozilla on Wednesday announced its partnership with Times Internet<\/a> and Dainik Bhaskar Digital for content offering. The company has also tied up with marketing company MoMagic to expand its reach.
“We're working on content because we want the browser to be useful for the user, not just when they have a purpose of coming here but even when they don't have a specific purpose. To address this, we are pushing the Live Feed feature and working with content players,” Cheng said.
The web technology player sees huge opportunity in India as most of India's internet users are mobile phone internet users.
Mozilla on Wednesday launched Firefox Lite in India and is now available in 15 markets in Asia including Bangladesh, China<\/a>, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia among other markets.
