This move comes at a time when short video<\/a> companies in India are witnessing unprecedented demand from consumers after the ban of Bytedance-owned TikTok along with 58 other Chinese apps last week.

The platform, which currently has more than 150 million users, will offer \"challenges\" across various areas in the performing arts like music, comedy and dance by influencers, celebrities and international artists, the company said in a statement.

In a statement, Gaana<\/a> chief executive Prashan Agarwal said the platform is built upon the expertise of its vertical video platform launched last year, that allowed singers and celebrities to connect with their audience through short videos.

\"Our home-grown entertainment super app is ready to serve as the country’s go-to destination for entertainment across music, podcasts, short viral videos and buzz, offering aspiring Indians the power to become influencers in their own right with Gaana’s world-class live streaming & short video capabilities,\" said Agarwal.

Other players in the short video segment include InMobi's Roposo, Chingari, Sharechat's Moj and Mitron.
