\"\" NEW DELHI: <\/strong>GOQii<\/a>, a fitness-based wearable<\/a> technology start-up backed by the likes of Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit and Google’s Rajan Anandan, is looking to raise around $20 million from venture capitalists in the coming months to fund its global expansion plans, a person familiar with the matter said.

The US-registered company - founded by entrepreneur
Vishal Gondal<\/a> – currently has its presence in India, Malaysia and Singapore, and has so far raised $2.5 million from a clutch of angel investors, including senior Google executives Anandan and Amit Singhal, WhatsApp business development head Neeraj Arora, Amazon Web Services vice president (mobile) Marco Argenti, Dixit and her husband Dr. Sriram Nene.

\nNene in fact is also the chief medical officer of the venture.
\n
\n“The funds would be used for the company’s planned global expansion and accelerate growth further,” the person said. GOQii plans to expand its operations to the US, South East Asia and Middle East markets in the first quarter of 2015 ending March 31.

Gondal is better known as the founder and former CEO of Indiagames, which was acquired by The Walt Disney Company for $100 million in 2011. He said that the focus of GOQii was not on the hardware but on building a complete lifestyle ecosystem with wearable band, application,
fitness<\/a> coaches and experts.
\n
\nThe company has close to 10,000 paying users, which it aims to increase to one million by 2016, Gondal said.
\n
\nGOQii operates through a pure online model and offers its product and services through e-commerce players such as Amazon, Flipkart and Snapdeal in India. The startup, in December last year, partnered with Microsoft to bundle its wearable band with purchase of three Lumia models.

\n\"\" Gondal said that the company is looking to partner with vendors such as Samsung, Sony and Apple in the wearables space to broaden its addressable market.

\nThe company offers subscription-based service, which comes with a fitness band and access to personal coach, who works with the user's data to provide customised advice on a regular basis and to keep the user motivated and on track to success by goal reinforcement.
