“GSAT-20 is to be planned in mid-2020. Next-generation high throughput satellites will address connectivity issues,” DoS secretary and Isro chairman Kailasavadivoo Sivan, in a televised message to India Satcom conference organised by Broadband India Forum (BIF) said.
GSAT-20, a five-ton satellite, and is likely to boost communication capabilities by offering high-speed internet of 100 Gbps or more to India’s rural and remote areas.
The top official added that the space agency has plans to unveil highly good satellites in the next two to four years.
GSAT-20, according to the space agency, would offer connectivity to Jammu and Kashmir and the northeastern states, and enable in-flight connectivity.
Satellite communication, according to him, plays an important role in connecting the remote and inaccessible places effectively in a cost-effective way.
“We are also bringing in new technologies<\/a> and higher bands for enhancing their capacities,” Sivan said.
The top official further said that India is at the doorstep to enter the new 5G communication era which is expected to make a paradigm shift in communication and IT services<\/a>.
Sivan, however, added that the department offers wholesome opportunities to citizens particularly to the telecom service providers.
The Department of Space and the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), he said, are working together to make a way forward for digital future in India.
