<\/figure> NEW DELHI: HCL, India\u2019s third-largest IT company, is inducting the gen-next into a leadership role. Roshni Nadar<\/a> Malhotra, the only daughter of founder Shiv Nadar<\/a>, was on Tuesday appointed the vice-chairman of the board of directors of HCL Tech<\/a>, the $8.2 billion group\u2019s flagship company.A former news producer at Sky News<\/a> UK, the 36-year-old Roshni -- who is married and a mother of two -- is currently the CEO and Executive Director of HCL Corporation, a holding company which controls HCL Tech, HCL Infosystems and HCL Healthcare. She has also been a non-executive director of HCL Tech, a position she continues to hold.
HCL officials say that Roshni does not play an active day-to-day role in running the operations of the group which continues to be managed by HCL Tech president and CEO C Vijayakumar<\/a>. The engagement, however, may get deeper after her appointment as vice-chairman.
<\/div><\/div>\u201cIt is a positive development for the company. Roshni has been a part of the HCL Tech board since 2013,\u201d Vijayakumar told TOI.
Roshni has been involved in a number of CSR and other social outreach programmes for the HCL group. She is the Chairman of the CSR Committee for HCL Tech Board and is responsible for providing \u201cstrategic direction\u201d to all HCL Foundation initiatives. She is also a trustee of the Shiv Nadar Foundation which is working in the area of the education.
As part of her larger social outreach initiatives, Roshni is also the Chairman and driving force behind VidyaGyan, a leadership academy of the company for the meritorious, underprivileged, rural students of Uttar Pradesh<\/a>.
Roshni has an undergraduate degree from Northwestern University, majoring in Communication with a focus on Radio\/TV\/Film. She did her MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management with a focus on social enterprise and management & strategy.
