Despite this confirmation from Huawei, there is still no word from Google<\/a> on the matter.
For those unaware, this matter has become the center of attention since the temporary general license (TGL) that was allotted to Huawei recently expired. A report by The Washington Post suggests that old Huawei phones are also on shaky grounds as they can lose Android support as well. As per the report, the license expired on August 13.
Since that happened, there has been speculation on the security status updates on the existing Huawei phones that run on Google Mobile Services (GMS).
As per the terms of the previous agreement, Huawei phones manufactured before May 2019 are eligible for updates from Google. However, If Huawei breaks any compatibility with Google's apps during a software update, Google won't be able to collaborate on the issue even if the US-based tech giant already provided the update and the security patch.
Despite such uncertainty, Huawei has had a more than good second quarter of 2020 as the company ranked number one brand with the maximum amount of shipments across the world, as per a report by research agency Canalys.
The report claims that this is the first quarter in nine years where a company other than Samsung<\/a> or Apple has emerged as the market leader. Huawei managed to ship 55.8 million handsets worldwide even though the US government band has affected its international sales. However, the company has strengthened its position in the company’s domestic market as it now sells over 70% of its handsets in China.
