It is now set to reach $3 billion value by 2023, CLSA said in a note on Tuesday.

The
mobile gaming<\/a> industry<\/a> in India exhibited a CAGR of 40% over 2016-20 to $1.2 billion and it is still witnessing hyper-growth in app downloads. It will further show a CAGR of 37% over 2020-23 due to the growth of digital infrastructure and a significant rise in quality and engagement of gaming content.

CLSA expects the
industry<\/a> to have revenues of $3.1 billion by 2023, considering the growth prospects of Nazara Technologies<\/a> which has formed partnership with Bharti Airtel<\/a>. Airtel<\/a> India eSports Tour will cover all Nodwin tournaments across gaming titles of PUBG Mobile<\/a>.

PayTm First Games<\/a>, which boasts of having a gaming community of 45 million gamers.

Out of all, Nazara was among the firsts to in the Indian market in eSports through Nodwin Gaming, and has invested more than Rs 3 billion in the mobile gaming ecosystem over the last five years.

In January 2021, Nazara refiled a draft red herring prospectus (DRHP) with SEBI for its initial public offering. It filed a previous DRHP in February 2018 that had received SEBI approval in April 2018, but could not launch the issue.

Now the planned public issue is a complete offer for sale of 4.96m equity shares by promoters and investors. Post DRHP filing, Nazara has raised Rs1 billion in funding from Instant Growth Ltd (IGL) valuing the company at an estimated equity value of $365 million.

Nazara’s telco subscription offerings currently comprise over 1,021 Android games mainly aimed at mass mobile internet users in emerging markets, composed largely of first-time mobile gamers.

Monetisation in telco subscription is undertaken through daily, weekly, or monthly subscriptions by subscribers, through carrier billing. Currently, Nazara derives revenues mainly from subscription fees paid by users for accessing gamified early learning content, as well as from the eSports business.

“Amidst exciting growth prospects for India mobile gaming and Nazara, for now, this leading player gaming reach and revenues are lagging leading OTT players. Nazara (monthly active users) MAUs for 1HFY21 increased to 49.3m, yet were behind (over the top) OTT player ZEE5 MAUs of 54.7m. Also in 1HFY21, ZEE5\/OTT revenues at Rs1.9bn were c.60% ahead of Nazara’s gaming revenues,” the report said.
