Samsung shipped smartphones worth $2 billion in Q4 2021, followed by Xiaomi and Realme with a shipment value of $1.7 billion and $1.1 billion, the firm said.

Meanwhile, the overall market shipments grew 11% year-on-year to 166 million units by the end of CY2021 and smartphone market revenue reached $37 billion, according to CMR.

“5G played a key role in this overall growth with its contribution increasing to 17% in CY2021. 5G shipments increased significantly (43%) in the value for money (INR 7,000 – INR 24,999) smartphone segment,” according to Shipra Sinha, Analyst-Industry Intelligence Group, CMR.

Xiaomi dominated the market in the quarter with a share of 21% (by shipments), Realme came in at second spot (17%), and Samsung settled in the third position (16%).

Also, Xiaomi’s 5G shipments grew 76% quarter-on-quarter owing to the launch of its 11 series models while one-third or 33% of Samsung smartphones shipped in Q4 were 5G-capable, the firm said.
