The share of 5G smartphones reached 36% of total smartphones in Q3 with 16 million units, with the country shipping 67 million smartphones between 1Q20 – when 5G wasn’t launched commercially in India – to 3Q22, when fifth-generation services are being rolled out gradually by Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel. The ASP for 5G smartphones dropped to $393 (~Rs 31,900) in 3Q22 from $509 (~Rs 41,300) in 1Q20.

The sub-$300 segment underperformed, as shipments declined by 15% year-over-year, said IDC. In contrast, the premium segment ($500+) continued to remain the highest growing price band with 64% growth during the same period and 8% share.
