NEW DELHI: Swedish telecom gear maker Ericsson<\/a> said that India will have 350 million 5G<\/a> subscriptions by 2026, accounting for 27 percent of all mobile subscriptions.
The findings come at a time when the government plans to hold a 4G airwaves sale in early-2021, which may be followed by a sale of 5G<\/a> airwaves later next year.
Ahead of the next spectrum sale, the Big 3 telcos, Reliance Jio<\/a>, Airtel and Vodafone Idea<\/a> (Vi) are known to be working on the development of locally-relevant 5G use cases are technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality (VR), and Internet of Things (IoT).
LTE will continue to be the dominant technology in India in 2026 accounting for 63% of mobile subscriptions. Mobile broadband<\/a> technologies accounted for 67 percent of mobile subscriptions in 2020, and this figure is predicted to reach 91 percent by 2026, when the total number of mobile broadband<\/a> subscriptions is set to reach close to 1.2 billion, the gear maker said.
