For instance, music streaming app Gaana's streams per month grew three times between June, 2016 - March 2017. Similarly, Hotstar's daily active users grew over four times during the same period.

\n80% of internet usage now takes place on mobile phones in India, which is the second highest in the world, after Nigeria, the report said, adding that the strong internet usage growth is driven by broader availability of low cost data access. The report said that 72% of Internet users in India are less than 35 years of age.

\nIn India, the estimated internet penetration has reached 27% in 2016 which is an increase of 5% from the 22% reach in 2015. The estimated internet users in India are 355 million as compared to 277 million users in 2015. China has 700 million internet users.

\nThe report said that data prices per GB have fallen from around $3.5 to $1.8 in the same period, according to the report that was released on Wednesday in the US. Reliance Jio itself charges around $0.17, the report said, although most consumers probably pay less.

\nThe report findings reveal that Indians now spend 28 hours a week on the mobile, as compared to 4 hours on TV. 45% of the overall time spent on mobile is on entertainment, 34% on search, social media and messaging, and 4% on shopping.

\nMillennial are now focused on short-form content such as ‘Hinglish’ standup comedy and content made for mobile, which is shared via messaging channels such as Whatsapp and Facebook. This dramatic growth is assisted by 4G rollout of Jio, the report said.

\nGoogle's operating system Android has the highest usage of Android phones by time spent.
