British telecom giant Vodafone Plc<\/a> on Wednesday announced that it would sell a 2.4 per cent stake in Indus Towers via a block deal to telecom major Bharti Airtel<\/a>.
The data from exchanges show that the deal has taken place as 6.97 crore shares exchanged hands on the National Stock Exchange, whereas more than 17.15 lakh shares were traded on BSE.
Following the update, shares of Indus Towers plunged 12 per cent to Rs 221.40. The scrip settled at Rs 251.20 on Wednesday.
The BSE barometer and benchmark Sensex plunged sharply and was trading 1,643.17 points or 2.87 per cent lower at 55,588.89 at the time of writing this report.
According to an ET report, Vodafone<\/a> is in talks to sell about five per cent of its stake in Indus Towers valued at over Rs 3,300 crore to Bharti Airtel. The proceeds will be pumped into the Indian entity, Vodafone Idea.
Currently, Vodafone holds about 28 per cent in Indus Towers while that of Bharti Airtel is close to 42 per cent.
Indus Towers, formerly Bharti Infratel Ltd, is a leading provider of passive telecom infrastructure. It deploys, owns and manages telecom towers and communication structures for various mobile operators.
