NEW DELHI: To enable maximum utilisation of modern communication technology for patient care, teaching, and research, AIIMS<\/a> has decided to make its campus 5G<\/a>-enabled by June 30. In an office memorandum, issued by the director Prof M Srinivas, stated that— “to enable maximum utilisation of modern communication technology for patient care, teaching, research, good governance and for optimal deployment of integrated medical university information system (IMUIS<\/a>) it is desirable that the entire campus has good strength of 5G mobile network to enable a robust mobile and data connectivity inside the buildings.”
He further stated that strong 5G connectivity<\/a> will also help the institute in implementation of eCasualty<\/a> and eICU solutions across its main and outreach campuses like NCI Jhajjar which will in turn enable senior faculty members to provide their expert advice during off duty hours, vacations as well.
According to administrative officials, the institute has a daily footfall of about 50,000 and good mobile connectivity is essential herein. It has been noted that currently there are many dark spots in the institute with nil to very poor mobile connectivity which causes great discomfort to patients, staff and visitors alike. Also, there is very limited 3G\/4G data connectivity<\/a> in major of the areas and 5G connectivity is nearly nil inside the institute buildings.
The committee will be headed by Prof Vivek Tandon, department of Neurosurgery AIIMS, and members include Dr Vivek Gupta (computer facility), superintending engineer Jitendra Saxena and Dr Vikas from telecommunications as a member secretary of the committee and Sunita Cherodath, senior deputy director general, department of telecommunication will be a special invitee.
Officials said that the committee will float an expression of interest within all 5G mobile service providers in NCT of Delhi by March 20th and request them to survey the campus and submit their gap analysis and solution design by April 15 for making the campus 5 G enabled by June 30. The committee was asked to submit the report on a fortnightly basis.
